While auditioning, I was always told I had a director's mind. While at times it was frustrating to be in my head, I've learned to appreciate the ability to see every detail and point it towards a common purpose. While I directed several short sketches, my first real stab at directing film was with Back to One, a pilot I produced with a dozen or so friends over two days. It was a crash course that taught me a lot about pre-production and managing time, and I’ve since directed Uncle Gareth with a modest budget, Ladder to the Moon completely guerilla over the course of four hours, and several other projects spread around on the budget/time scatterplot.

I am an actor's director; my focus is on making the script’s themes come out as naturally as possible through the cast, and have found a lot of our best stuff through experimenting on set. Having a strong collaborative relationship with the cinematographer is also incredibly important to me, as they’ll understand how to translate my ideas into images much more strongly than I will. Many of my fondest memories are these days on set, and I strive to make each production creatively fulfilling and comfortable for everyone on cast and crew.
